Hans is chairman of the Platform Unmanned Cargo Aircraft (PUCA), an international organization that aims to facilitate the development of unmanned cargo aircraft. These aircraft have various advantages over manned aircraft, including the potential to transport cargo loads that are too small to be transported efficiently by manned aircraft, and their productivity (no pilot scheduling constraints). This should make it possible to unlock the economic potential of regions that are as yet excluded from the worldwide air cargo transport network.
Hans has a long-term developments in aviation. This ranges from the competitive positions of network carriers versus low-cost airlines to the development and acquisition of combat aircraft and other technologies. Hans publishes an analysis of major aviation developments in the Dutch monthly trade publication ‘Piloot & Vliegtuig’. Of special interest are the decision and importance assessment processes involved.
